A former managing director with Deutsche Bank Securities, Inc., Robert Wheeler was based in Houston and maintained industry securities registration for nearly two decades. Robert Wheeler has a black Labrador retriever and enjoys running in Houston’s Memorial Park with his dog. Known for their loyalty and calm character, Labrador retrievers are a sporting dog that were traditionally used by hunters in retrieving game such as waterfowl.
Originally known as lesser Newfoundland dogs and St. John's dogs, Labradors were bred in the 1700s in remote Canadian fishing communities. The dogs assisted with hauling lines in the water and in retrieving fish that slipped off hooks. Able to work long hours alongside fishermen in cold waters, the Labrador was welcomed into the home as a family companion.
Brought to the United Kingdom in the early 1800s, the breed was quickly popularized by sportsmen such as the Earl of Malmesbury at Heron Court. To this day, Labrador retrievers are known for loyally working past their physical ability, should the situation require.
